The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role within Holcim’s Surfacing team, delivering high-quality asphalt and infrastructure projects across Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractor environments.
As Surfacing Supervisor, you will lead from the front on live sites, coordinating gangs, managing logistics, maintaining programme momentum and ensuring every square metre laid meets the highest technical and safety standards. You’ll take ownership of day-to-day surfacing operations on busy multi-contractor sites, ensuring production targets, quality standards and health & safety expectations are consistently achieved.
This is a hands-on supervisory role where technical knowledge, commercial awareness and people leadership all matter. You’ll be the key link between site teams, commercial teams and the main contractor’s engineering staff, ensuring accurate reporting, smooth coordination and strong client relationships. You can be based anywhere between Northampton and Nottingham for this role.
What You’ll Be Doing
Leading and coordinating daily activities of surfacing gangs to achieve production targets
Managing precise timing of asphalt deliveries to maintain continuous laying and finished quality
Ensuring all works meet Tier 1 & 2 contractor quality standards including levels, compaction and finish
Delivering daily briefings and enforcing strict adherence to RAMS
Carrying out pre-start site surveys to verify levels and dimensions against drawings
Measuring and recording daily outputs including tonnages laid and square metres completed
Identifying and documenting variations or “extra over” works for commercial capture
Using laser levels and surveying equipment to ensure drainage falls and tie-ins meet specification
Acting as the main point of contact for the Main Contractor’s Site Engineer or Section Manager
Supervising sub-contracted elements such as white lining, ironwork adjustments or planing contractors
Managing time, paperwork and site documentation in line with KPI expectations
Supporting strategic initiatives and maintaining strong site performance culture
What You’ll Bring
Supervisory experience within the surfacing industry
Experience as a Lead Ganger or Foreman ready to progress into a formal supervisory role
Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings
Solid understanding of BS EN 13108 (Asphalt) and MCHW specifications
Strong numeracy skills for calculating material requirements and measuring outputs
SSSTS certification essential (SMSTS preferred)
Gold or Black CSCS card
High attention to detail, particularly surface finish and drainage levels
Ability to motivate crews and deliver under tight time constraints
Strong communication skills and confidence working with Tier 1 contractor representatives
