The Opportunity
Holcim UK is opening its brand-new Tilbury Cement Grinding Station, and we’re looking for an Electrical Controls & Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician to be part of this exciting journey. This is a unique chance to join one of Holcim’s newest sites from the very beginning, helping to shape its success by ensuring plant reliability, efficiency, and safety through expert maintenance and optimisation of automation and control systems.Working on a Monday to Friday basis with call out being based on a rota system.
If you’re passionate about electrical engineering, process automation, and instrumentation and want to play a key role in the success of a high-profile site, this role is for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on control systems, PLCs, VSDs, motors, and instrumentation to ensure maximum reliability.
Diagnosing and resolving faults across automation and control systems, including Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, and Mitsubishi PLCs.
Maintaining and optimising SCADA/DCS systems for accurate monitoring and process stability.
Calibrating and maintaining instrumentation such as flow meters, load cells, pressure transmitters, and gas analysers.
Supporting process optimisation by troubleshooting PID loops and making program modifications to improve performance.
Ensuring compliance with functional safety standards, including SIL-rated systems.
Following strict safety standards such as LOTOTO, PUWER, COSHH, and the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations.
Working closely with maintenance and production teams to ensure smooth and safe plant operation.
Documenting all maintenance activities, calibration reports, and asset histories within SAP/CMMS systems.
Supporting and mentoring apprentices and junior technicians, sharing your technical knowledge.
Who You Are
You’re a skilled and motivated EC&I professional with a passion for electrical systems, automation, and instrumentation. You thrive in fast-paced, high-volume environments and enjoy solving complex problems.
- Essential:
Time-served electrical apprenticeship or HNC in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering.
18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
Strong experience with PLCs (Rockwell, Siemens, Omron, Mitsubishi) and SCADA/DCS automation.
Knowledge of VSDs, motor controls, and electrical diagnostics.
Skilled in instrumentation calibration and maintenance (flow, pressure, temperature, weighing).
Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
- Desirable:
City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing.
Familiarity with advanced control strategies such as PID tuning and process optimisation.
Knowledge of energy efficiency systems and power management.
Experience with SAP or similar CMMS systems.
