The Opportunity

Join Holcim as a Mechanical Fitter at Newbold Quarry, our  largest sand and gravel site in the UK. This is no ordinary quarry, it’s a high-volume operation supplying essential materials that help shape major projects across the country. Working here means being part of something big, with around-the-clock activity and a team committed to safety, sustainability, and excellence.

You’ll be on a permanent evening shift (start at 11:30 am), taking ownership of key maintenance tasks that keep this one-of-a-kind site running smoothly. Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance and repairs to keep equipment running reliably and efficiently.

• React quickly to breakdowns, ensuring production downtime is minimised and issues are resolved properly.

• Support safe working practices by developing and following maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and permits to work.

• Conduct daily plant inspections, documenting findings and reporting any issues immediately.

• Take pride in keeping work areas safe, tidy, and hazard-free.

• Train and support operatives in basic maintenance tasks, helping to raise standards across the site.

• Maintain tools, equipment, and site assets to a high standard.

• Accurately record plant stoppages, breakdowns, and repairs.

• Work the designated evening shift (Monday–Thursday 11:30am–10:00pm, Friday 8:00am–5:00pm), with flexibility to support when needed.

Who You Are

• A qualified Mechanical Fitter (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) with hands-on skills in welding, cutting, and fabrication.

• Experienced in reading engineering drawings and carrying out scheduled maintenance.

• Safety-focused, with a strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental best practices.

• Highly motivated and reliable, with excellent teamwork and communication skills.

• Organised and adaptable, capable of working effectively in a fast-paced environment.

• Flexible with working hours, including occasional weekends if required.
