The Opportunity

As our new Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at the Crawley Asphalt Plant you'll work Monday to Friday from 5am until 2pm with flexibility to cover business needs, there will also be a saturday shift every other weekend from 5am until 11am. Overtime available where required.
You will play a critical role in maximising plant reliability, minimising unplanned downtime, and ensuring the long-term health of our vital site assets. Working permanently and fully on-site in Crawley, you will report directly to the Plant Manager, enjoying a highly visible role where your technical expertise directly impacts our operational success.
In this vital position, your daily activities will focus on keeping our operations moving safely and efficiently. Your essential functions will include:
Executing rigorous Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedules across all plant equipment, including conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, liners, pumps, valves, and pneumatic rams.
Responding promptly and safely to unplanned plant breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
Conducting daily and periodic asset inspections on key infrastructure like slinger belts and head/tail drum assemblies.
Accurately recording all plant inspections, maintenance logs, and defect reports using our digital management tools.
Collaborating regularly with site management and supporting production staff, which includes cross-training in shovel operation and helping develop production operatives in basic maintenance tasks.
Upholding a strict "Safety First" philosophy, taking personal responsibility for hazard-free workspaces, risk assessments, and safety documentation.
Who you are
Qualified & Experienced: You hold an NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Maintenance (or equivalent) and possess proven experience as a Fitter in an industrial setting, with strong skills in welding, cutting, and fabrication. Experience within the asphalt industry is highly desirable but not essential.
Technical & Analytical: You can read and interpret complex engineering drawings, plan maintenance schedules, and have a comprehensive understanding of mechanical infrastructure and lubrication protocols.
Digitally Competent: You are comfortable utilising modern digital tools and technology to log equipment defects and record your maintenance activities.
Safety-Minded: You embody a "Stop and Think" methodology, always prioritising safety and compliance in everything you do.
Motivated & Collaborative: You bring strong initiative and a sense of personal ownership to your work. You enjoy working as part of a team and are enthusiastic about mentoring apprentices or junior staff when the opportunity arises.
Adaptable: You possess the flexibility required to support a 24/7 operation, including taking on weekends and call-outs as required to keep the plant running smoothly. Having proficiency in operating heavy plant machinery, such as loading shovels, is a fantastic bonus.
