The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to take full operational leadership of a busy site during the night shift. As Night Shift Manager working on a 4 on 4 off, 5 on 5 off rotation from 5:30 until 6:00, you will lead from the front, managing all operational and maintenance activities on shift while developing a strong, safety-led culture within your team. You will be the senior decision-maker on site overnight, ensuring performance, compliance, and people leadership are delivered to the highest standard.
What you’ll be doing
Leading all operational and maintenance activity on site during the night shift
Act as the Statutory 8.1(d) on site in order to maintain a statutory presence.
Acting as the senior site representative, providing clear leadership and direction to employees and contractors
Driving a strong Health, Safety and Environmental culture, ensuring full compliance with legislation, Cardinal Rules and site procedures
Planning, allocating and supervising work in line with competence, risk assessments and business priorities
Conducting risk assessments, safety inspections and incident investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
Managing and developing the performance, capability and engagement of your shift team
Ensuring production and maintenance targets are achieved safely, efficiently and within cost constraints
Overseeing plant, equipment and facilities to ensure they are maintained to a high standard and remain safe and operational
Maintaining accurate records, reports and IMS documentation
Ensuring effective shift handovers and communication with the opposite shift and wider site management team
Supporting training, inductions and ongoing development for employees and contractors
What you’ll bring
You will be an experienced operational leader with a strong safety mindset and the confidence to take ownership of site performance overnight. You will be organised, resilient and able to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment, while leading and motivating teams to deliver results. A strong understanding of quarrying or heavy industry operations, health and safety legislation, and people management is essential, along with excellent communication skills and a proactive, professional approach.
Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within a quarry, manufacturing, logistics or heavy industrial environment is ideal
IOSH Managing Safely or preferably NEBOSH qualification.
SHE NVQ Level 3 or QCF Equivalent (or working towards)
Geological Training Level 4 (or working towards)
Strong working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, with the confidence to challenge unsafe behaviours
Experience leading and motivating teams in a fast-paced, operational setting
Ability to plan, prioritise and allocate work effectively across a shift
Strong decision-making skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with operatives, contractors and senior stakeholders
Experience managing incidents, investigations, and implementing corrective actions
IT literate, with experience using operational or maintenance systems
Flexible and resilient approach to working nights and managing changing operational demands
