The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join Holcim UK, a leading supplier of traditional and sustainable construction materials, committed to creating a better built environment. As a Maintenance Fitter reporting to the Plant Manager at our Bardon Hill Asphalt Plant, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently carrying out planned maintenance and repairs to the site and equipment. In this on-site role, you will be instrumental in maintaining our asset capacity and value, ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities while contributing to the preparation of safe working methods.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this hands-on and vital role, you will:
Carry out planned maintenance and repairs to the site and equipment to maintain asset capacity and value.
Respond to plant breakdowns ensuring the equipment is returned to production in a timely manner, and ensure temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution.
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping, ensuring areas are kept clean, tidy, and hazard-free.
Carry out daily plant and other inspections, completing the necessary forms and notifying management immediately where problems exist.
Take responsibility for entrusted plant assets, including materials, buildings, equipment, and stores, ensuring their efficient employment.
Monitor and ensure that all plant stoppages, breakdowns, and logs are documented correctly.
Complete and adhere to all Safety-related documentation for all maintenance activities.
React promptly to site breakdowns by liaising with operatives and assisting where needed.
Support the production team when required, including tasks such as operating and loading shovel driving.
Support and train operatives to complete maintenance tasks.
What You’ll Bring
You will be a highly motivated individual with the drive and enthusiasm to succeed in a dynamic environment. You will bring:
Experience as a fitter, skilled in welding, cutting, and fabricating techniques.
A relevant technical qualification, such as an NVQ3 or equivalent in Mechanical maintenance.
The ability to work flexibly, including working as part of a 24-hour, 7-day a week operation as required.
Excellent communication and team-working skills, with the ability to liaise with site management professionally.
The ability to plan and implement maintenance schedules alongside a good working knowledge of engineering drawings.
A good understanding of health and safety practices, including environmental considerations.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
IT literacy to handle necessary documentation and reporting.
