The Opportunity

As a Senior Construction Materials Technician, you’ll take the lead in managing and running our on-site technical laboratory. You’ll be responsible for sampling, testing, and analysing our sand, aggregate, and bituminous products to ensure compliance with strict British and European standards. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position where your technical expertise will make a real impact on product quality and operational performance.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading the technical testing and reporting of all aggregates, asphalt, and raw materials on site.

• Maintaining strict compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality assurance standards.

• Supervising a small team of technicians, ensuring they are trained, motivated, and working safely.

• Conducting trend analysis to identify performance improvements and implementing corrective actions.

• Investigating and resolving quality non-conformance, proposing preventive solutions.

• Managing laboratory equipment, ensuring all calibration and maintenance schedules are met.

• Supporting customers and other departments with technical advice and test data.

• Contributing to innovation through ongoing review of mix designs and material optimisation.

• Producing regular test data, summaries, and reports for both internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Bring

• Solid experience in asphalt and aggregate materials testing, ideally with supervisory experience desirably but not essential.  

• Strong understanding of BS EN standards, Quality Management Systems, and ISO 9001 processes.

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.

• Ability to coach, motivate, and manage a small team effectively.

• Strong IT literacy, with experience using testing software and company systems.

• A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel as needed across your area.

• Ideally, membership of the Institute of Asphalt Technology or Institute of Quarrying (desirable).
