The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Plant Operative to join our team at Holcim —where no two days are the same. Based at our Darwen Asphalt Plant, you’ll be right at the heart of the action—balancing customer service with operations, from weighbridge control to batching and loading shovel driving. Whether you're new to the industry or bring experience with you, we’ll train and support you to succeed in this varied, hands-on role.
If you're a friendly, team-oriented individual who enjoys working with people and machines, this is a fantastic opportunity to grow with a leading business in a critical industry.
What Makes This Role Unique:
Customer-Facing & Operational: You’ll be the welcoming face for haulage drivers and customers, while also managing the weighbridge and supporting batching and loading shovel operations.
Full Training Provided: Whether it's operating the batching system, using digital tools, or learning to drive a loading shovel, we’ll invest in your training and growth.
Part of a Specialist Team: Work alongside experienced colleagues in a respected local team, backed by Holcim—a global leader in sustainable construction.
Make a Real Impact: You’ll be part of a business focused on delivering high-quality asphalt products safely and efficiently, helping shape the roads and infrastructure around us.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Operating the weighbridge system to control vehicle loading and ensure compliance.
Supporting the batching process to produce high-quality asphalt to specification.
Driving and maintaining mobile plant like the loading shovel (training provided).
Completing digital pre-start checks and logging plant inspections.
Monitoring stock levels and ensuring safe material feed into the plant.
Maintaining clear communication with customers, drivers, and order offices.
Upholding health, safety, and environmental standards across all areas.
Keeping accurate records in our internal management systems.
Helping to keep the site tidy, organised, and operating smoothly.
What You’ll Bring:
A positive attitude and genuine interest in learning new skills.
Strong customer service skills—you’ll be working with drivers, customers, and colleagues every day.
Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.
Confidence using computer systems (basic IT literacy is essential).
A flexible, hands-on approach to work.
Commitment to safe working practices and looking out for your team.
We are committed to building a diverse environment and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. You will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or age.
